Investment of 1.5 million euros in decarbonisation and energy efficiency
GRA2003 has embarked on an ambitious decarbonisation process to reduce the ecological footprint of its production in line with European environmental objectives. With an investment of close to 1.5 million euros, the company has modernised equipment, replaced technologies and optimised processes, aiming for a 34.5% reduction in GHG emissions by 2025.
Main actions:
- Energy efficiency: Replacement of primary cutting machines (multi-wire/disc) and transformation with numerical control, reducing consumption and production times.
- Transition to electric: Replacement of combustion forklifts with electric equipment, with 3 main units already refurbished.
- Water management: Total remodelling of the water treatment system, with software monitoring and a drastic reduction in new water consumption.
- Renewable energy: Construction of a photovoltaic unit to power industrial processes.
- Innovation: Own production of oxygen via electric generator and air compressors with high-efficiency variable speed drives.
Next steps:
The company is developing the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to assess the carbon footprint of granite products, analysing impacts such as global warming, acidification and resource use.
The process includes specialised software (One Click LCA) and validation by independent bodies, guaranteeing transparency and compliance with European standards.
‘Sustainability is not just a regulatory requirement, but a commitment to the future’ – emphasises Miguel Vieira, Manager at GRA2003
